Which LG trial split is right for your three rooms?

An LG trial split wall system serves three separate rooms from a single outdoor unit and three independent indoor units, one per room: it cools in summer and heats in winter with a heat pump, with Dual Inverter technology and R-32 refrigerant. It is the right choice for a whole flat when you want a single machine on the balcony but separate controls in each room. The best-selling combination is the Libero Smart 9+9+12 with the MU3R19 outdoor unit, and prices start around 1386 euros. Browse the full LG range or all trial split wall units.

Three warm rooms, but only one balcony

Bedroom, kids' room and living room that all turn unliveable in summer: with three monosplit units you would need three outdoor units and three times as many holes in the facade, which the building rarely allows. The trial split solves exactly that for a whole flat: a single outdoor unit, three separate indoor units, each room at the temperature it prefers.

The most popular LG series

The Libero Smart series is the most chosen for trial splits, with built-in Wi-Fi and excellent efficiency: it comes in 9+9+9, 9+9+12 and 9+12+12 combinations with MU3R19 or MU3R21 outdoor units. The Libero series offers the same layout at a lower price, while the Artcool Gallery turns the indoor units into design objects. All use R-32 refrigerant and Dual Inverter technology and run as a heat pump.

Which combinations per room

With a trial split you choose the power of each indoor unit by room, while the outdoor unit (MU3R19 or MU3R21) must handle the sum of all three.

  • 9+9+9 BTU: three bedrooms or studies up to about 25 sqm each;
  • 9+9+12 BTU: two bedrooms plus a mid-size living room, the most chosen combination;
  • 9+12+12 BTU: a bedroom plus two living rooms up to about 35 sqm;
  • MU3R21 outdoor unit: when the BTU total is high or the indoor units are far apart.

How much does it cost to run?

This is the question that stops almost everyone. Dual Inverter technology modulates the power with two rotors instead of switching on and off, so it uses far less than three old units; with R-32 refrigerant and energy classes up to A+++, the bill stays under control even with all three rooms served all afternoon.

It heats in winter too

Because it is a heat pump, the same trial split warms all three rooms in the mid-seasons within minutes, often for less than electric heaters running in three rooms. For hot water instead, see the heat-pump water heaters.

LG and the connected home

With built-in Wi-Fi and the LG ThinQ app you control each indoor unit independently from your phone or by voice: turn on just the bedrooms in the evening and add the living room when you get home. Find all compatible models among the smart air conditioners for Alexa and Google Home.

LG versus other brands

Against premium brands like Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric, LG offers Dual Inverter technology and a compressor warranty of up to 10 years at a more accessible price: it is the number one brand in Germany and very strong in France precisely for this balance of technology and efficiency. To compare, also look at Samsung, Hisense and Haier.

Incentives, warranty and support

Buying a high-efficiency heat-pump unit may qualify for energy-renovation incentives depending on the schemes in force: keep your invoice and paperwork and check the current conditions. Every LG trial split ships with the official manufacturer warranty, often up to 10 years on the compressor, delivery across the country and our help choosing the sizes and the right outdoor unit. If a single room is enough, look at a monosplit wall unit, for multisplit setups see all wall air conditioners, and check the deals on all air conditioners.

Frequently asked questions

Is a trial split or three separate monosplit units better?
If the three rooms are close and you want a single outdoor unit on the balcony, the LG trial split wins: fewer holes in the facade, one maintenance visit and often the building's approval. Three monosplit units only make sense if the rooms are far apart.
Can I run just one or two rooms at a time?
Yes, the three indoor units are independent: turn on just the bedrooms in the evening and add the living room whenever you like. The LG outdoor unit modulates power to the active indoor units, so nothing is wasted.
Which LG combination for two bedrooms and a living room?
The most chosen combination is 9+9+12 with the MU3R19 outdoor unit: 9000 BTU per bedroom up to about 25 sqm and 12000 BTU for the living room up to about 35 sqm. We help you match the sizes to your rooms.
Does an LG trial split heat in winter too?
Yes, it is a heat pump: in the mid-seasons it warms all three rooms within minutes, often for less than electric heaters running in three rooms.
How long is the LG compressor warranty?
On many LG models the compressor warranty runs up to 10 years, on top of the standard warranty on the unit. It is one reason LG is the best-selling brand in Germany: always keep the invoice to activate it.
Can I get an incentive for the purchase?
Often yes: a high-efficiency heat-pump unit may qualify for energy-renovation incentives. Keep your invoice and proof of payment and check the conditions in force at the time of purchase.
